King Baudouin of Belgium was utterly out of pocket with his position during his speech in the video below!

the martyr against imperialism

Patrice Lumumba emerged as a magnetic leader and fervent advocate for national independence and social fairness, playing a pivotal role in the movement to liberate the Congo from Belgian colonial domination. Following the country's emancipation in 1960, he assumed the role of Prime Minister, facing numerous hurdles to realize his vision for a self-sufficient and united Congo, such as regional tensions, secessionist uprisings, and meddling from Western powers.

Lumumba's political stance, characterized by his opposition to colonialism and socialist ideology, sparked tensions with the United States and Belgium. These nations, apprehensive of his potential alignment with the Soviet Union during the Cold War, sought to undermine his government. Lumumba's tenure as Prime Minister was fleetingly ephemeral, spanning from June to September 1960, and he was eventually apprehended in December 1960.

In a tragic twist of fate, Lumumba was transported to Katanga Province, where he was imprisoned and subjected to torture. On January 17, 1961, Lumumba was executed by a firing squad, constituting a somber chapter in African history. His demise is widely perceived as a consequence of foreign intervention and a struggle against his vision for a genuinely autonomous and unified Congo.

Despite the brevity of his time in power, Lumumba's legacy perseveres as a symbol of African nationalism and resistance against colonial subjugation. He is commemorated for his unwavering dedication to the principles of self-determination and social parity, positioning him as a revered figure in the annals of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the wider African continent.
